Teachers

The Newspaper is a versatile non-fiction teaching resource written for use in UK schools.

Teachers all over the UK have found so many different ways of using The Newspaper in their lessons.

Schools who subscribe receive a pack of 32 copies each half term.

Why packs of 32 copies?

We deliver the paper in packs of 32 so that each pupil in your class can read their own copy. You can of course have more than one pack.

Why publish each half term?

Pupils don't have time to read a newspaper every day. Teachers tell us that with all the material they have to cover these days they don't have the time to use the paper in their lessons every week. We choose articles that we hope will stay relevant for a half term giving teachers plenty of time to brighten up their lessons with The Newspaper.

Who is it aimed at?

The Newspaper is written for pupils ages 8 to 14 but we find that many schools use it outside this range. Some schools use it with younger pupils, others buy copies for their sixth form tutor rooms where they say it always get's a good discussion going.

What's in The Newspaper?

As well as the home, world and sports news pages we also cover a standard set of topics each issue. There is always at least one page covering each of animals, food, health, charities, science and ecology. The games and a gadgets pages are particularly popular with the boys. In a double page spread of entertainment news we try to present the positive side of the celebrities that many pupils love to read about. We also have a book page looking at the latest releases.

Who uses The Newspaper?

The Newspaper isn't just about reading and literacy. It's used across a wide range of school subjects including geography, PSHE and citizenship. Even science departments find our science and eco pages a useful resource.

Extra activities

To add a bit of variety we include, with each issue, two quizzes to test how well your pupils have read the paper. One of these is printed on the puzzle page and there is a different online quiz here on the website. On the puzzle page you will also find a wordsearch and a crossword using words from that issue.

If you don't want to spoil your copies of The Newspaper you can print out all the quizzes and puzzles from the extras section of the website.
